douro.parque.intro.jpgDouro International Nature Park occupies 85.146 ha area. The Egypt vulture or “Britango”, (Neophron percnopterus) has been chosen to be the Douro International Nature Park symbol because, being a threatened specie all over the world, in Portugal’s territory it mainly nests in this Park.

Besides, this specie symbolizes the fusion between an almost intact landscape, such as the prominent vertical cliffs of Douro river, where it nests, and the plateaus where human activity has modified landscape by cereal cultivation and extensive cattle raising, which easily provides corps to the vulture diet.
